The income tax department of India has made it obligatory for all taxpayers to link their Aadhaar Card with Pan Card. To make the process easier and smoother they have launched 2 easy methods which don’t require the taxpayers to register or login to their e-filing website for linking PAN with Aadhaar. These facilities can be used by any Indian citizen for PAN Aadhaar Link Online.
How to Link Aadhaar with PAN?
According to the notification of Income Tax Department, income tax of all taxpayers can e-file easily without linking their Aadhaar with Pan Card, but this was only applicable till 5th of August 2017. Initially, the deadline for linking the Aadhaar with Pan Card was extended till 31st of August 2017 and then it was increased to 31st of December 2017 and subsequently the deadline was again extended till 31st of March 2019. But the department again extended the deadline and the Aadhaar Pan Link the Last Date was set for 31st of December 2019.
You need to keep in mind that you will be allowed to file your income tax every year, but the department will not process the returns of taxpayers until they link their Aadhaar with Pan Card. Online Linking of Aadhaar with Pan Card
To link your Aadhaar with Pan Card online you need to login to the income tax e-filing website. There you will find two different ways to link Aadhaar with Pan via online income tax website – Without Logging in to your Account and Logging in to your Account
Without Logging in to your Account:
- Go to the official portal of income tax department i.e. incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on the link available on the left panel (Link Aadhaar).
- Provide the details of PAN and Aadhaar Card number
- Click on submit button after entering the details and verification will be done from UIDAI and post verification the linking will be confirmed via SMS.
Logging into the Account:
- You need to register with the income tax e-filing portal and if you are already registered with the portal, then simply login for e-filing Aadhaar Link.
- Once you login to the portal a pop-up window will appear prompting to link aadhaar with pan. If you don’t see the window, then go to the profile settings and click on “Link Aadhaar”.
- All details like DOB, name, gender and more will already be available there as per the details provided at the time of registration. You simply need to verify your details on screen and if the details provided match you need to enter the Aadhaar Number and captcha code and click on “Link Now” button to complete the process.
- A pop-message will appear confirming your linking process if the process is completed successfully.
How to Link Aadhaar with Pan Via SMS?
Another process to link Aadhaar with Pan Card is via SMS services. Income Tax Department has launched SMS based services to allow taxpayers to link their Aadhaar with Pan Card. You can link the Aadhaar with Pan simply by sending SMS to either 56161 or 567678. But you need to ensure that you are sending the SMS to these numbers from your registered mobile number in the following format.
- UIDPAN (Space) 12 Digital Aadhaar Number (Space) 10 Digit PAN Number and send it to the given number for successful linking of Aadhaar and Pan via SMS facility.
After sending the SMS you need to wait for the confirmation message which you will receive in your registered mobile number after few minutes. You can also check the Pan card link to Aadhaar card Status online from its online portal or by sending SMS.
But, the best way is to go for Pan Aadhaar Link Status Check Online directly from the official portal of the Income Tax Department. You can check the status and also get confirmation upon successful link of Aadhaar and Pan Link. Remember, the last date for linking your Aadhaar and Pan was 31st of December 2019 and there is still no further confirmation for extension of the deadline.
