Aadhaar has been on news headlines from the day it was introduced. It was appraised by the supporters but at the same time ridiculed by the opposition and faced allegations that it’s a deep penetration to the privacy of Indian citizens. Though the government has tried all the ways to protect the Aadhaar bill , in last year’s ruling of supreme court , Aadhaar card was made ineffectual on grounds of privacy protection as some companies were using the Aadhaar information of the citizens for their own benefits but recently , supreme court has come up with its new ruling on Aadhaar card that Aadhaar card to be recognized as an ID proof and made it operational in full force.
With its linkage to bank accounts, Pan card and phone numbers , the government has planned to link the Aadhaar card with driving license . A new amendment bill has been passed on 4 January, 2019. An official announcement was made on January 6 , 2019 by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad that the government would soon make it mandatory to link driving license with Aadhaar card Avoiding duplication.
This step has been taken by government for the welfare of the people of this country. Modi government has been introducing new measures and guidelines almost every third month which are genuinely meant to be beneficial for the citizens.
People find it easy to get duplicate licenses by approaching different Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) to hide their real identities. This is the main reason that the government has introduced this bill.
What are the benefits of this amendment ?
Better identification of License holder –
This amendment is surely going to provide a bird’s eye view to the law protectors as there are instances when the criminals easily get away after committing a crime and use the fake or duplicate driving license of any other citizen- but after this amendment is in full force – there would be accurate identification of the citizens and it would defiantly bring down the crime rate.
Payment of traffic fines –
There are some people who avoid paying their penalties and always break the traffic rules. by introduction of this linking mechanism , the penalties can be directly linked to Aadhaar and the person would be bound to pay the traffic fine.
How to link the Aadhaar card to Driving License ?
While the government is still in process of introducing the updates on their official website, a person can voluntarily can go to State/UT RTO and ask the concerned person to link his/her Aadhaar card to driving License .
Online linking of Aadhaar card to driving license
- step 1 : First Visit your state/UT road transport department’s website.
- Step 2 : then Click on the “Link Aadhaar” option .
- Step 3 : select the “Driving License” from the drop down menu.
- Step 4 : enter your driving license number and then click on the “Get Details” option.
As a good citizen, it’s your duty to get the updates on linking your Aadhaar to the driving license from the concerned authorities.
